Compliance Review Specialist - Backflow
About BRYCER:
BRYCER is the leading inspection, testing, and maintenance compliance software provider serving fire departments and local governments across the United States. Its flagship product, The Compliance Engine (TCE), is a cloud-based platform that streamlines fire and life safety inspections, helping municipalities increase compliance rates and protect public safety. With a rapidly expanding customer base of over 2,000 jurisdictions, BRYCER continues to grow its services to deliver best-in-class technology and customer support.
What you'll do
Review deficient backflow prevention assembly test reports submitted by third-party testers
Produce a Test Report Evaluation Summary for each device that identifies what failed, explains the code or standard basis, and describes what the failure means for the potable water supply at that specific connection
Apply degree-of-hazard judgment – what a failure at this connection could introduce, and why correction matters
Identify assembly suitability and installation concerns where the report surfaces them, including cases where the installed assembly may not match the hazard level it protects
Write clearly enough that a property owner or contractor understands the problem and the water department can act on it
You won't be performing field testing or inspections. This is evaluative, documentation-focused work you do from your own desk.
What we're looking for
Required:
Current Cross-Connection Control Device Inspector (CCCDI) certification in good standing
5+ years working in backflow prevention or cross-connection control
Able to write a clear, defensible explanation of a deficiency — this role is as much writing as it is technical judgment
No active commercial backflow testing in markets where BRYCER reviews reports (conflict of interest)
Preferred:
Current IEPA CCCDI certification
Current Illinois plumber's license (prerequisite for CCCDI)
Strong working knowledge of the Illinois Plumbing Code, 35 Ill. Adm. Code Part 604, AWWA M14 hazard classification, and ASSE assembly standards (1013, 1015, 1020, 1047, 1048, 1056), including the failure modes of each assembly type and what each protects against
ABPA Cross-Connection Control Specialist, ASSE 5150 Backflow Prevention Program Administrator, or ASSE 5120 Surveyor/Specialist
Experience on the program side — receiving, adjudicating, or enforcing on submitted test reports for a water utility or municipality
